The National Dementia Strategy 2009

Published in February 2009, the long-awaited National Dementia Strategy is one of the most important steps forward in planning this decade.

The full document runs to over 100 pages, but it is quite easy to read.  You can download the full document and an easy-read summary using the links below.

The 'Respect for dementia' campaign is one part of our contribution to delivering the plan.  If you read the strategy you will see that one of the problem identified is the lack of understanding by the general public [and by some professionals] about what dementia means.

The people we spoke to told us that this is a significant problem in Suffolk too.

Our campaign is intended to raise awareness, to challenge stigma, and to encourage people to talk about dementia.  We're going to see a big increase in the number of people living with dementia in Suffolk over the next decade so it is important that we plan ahead.

Local NHS, local authority, and voluntary organisations in Suffolk are already working together to plan for the future.  You can check back on this page to find out more about how the National Dementia Strategy will be implemented in our County. If you register with us we will also email you updates over the coming year.
